What I always liked about Marvel was that unlike DC they didn't copy and paste their own characters. Yeah, Venom is a character very similar to Spider-Man, but at the same time he is dramatically different. The same can't be said for Superman and Supergirl. But now first Thor and female Thor? Spider-Man and Spider-Gwen? Blade and Kid Blade? It's sooo lazy and I really wish these characters didn't turn out successful, so that you have to do a little bit more to please the fans.

I have to say, it sounds to me like you haven’t read any of the books in question (I know you haven’t read the new BLADE series) and are instead judging based on what you’ve heard and what little you’ve seen. So my advice would be for you to take a closer read before you dismiss these things out of hand, as none of the examples you list are really much like what you’re worried about.

I brought up the new Blade amongst a group of friends the other day, and someone decided to complain about how Marvel is starting to rip off DC by passing on their mantles to new characters, and how dumb that was.

I pointed out that ugh, yeah, Marvel is just SO terrible at ripping off DC like that, like when they gave that Human Torch name to that new kid instead of the android, a few years ago.  And what about all those Captains America from the 50s?

(Also, I thought fandom generally loved that DC used to let characters grow, change, and pass on their identities to new generations.)
