I have never *never* understood this need in fandom to have every story be ‘necessary’ or for it to ‘matter’. For the first one, what does that even *mean*? A story being ‘necessary’ feels like a highly subjective metric.
And if a story is entertaining, if it’s being a story someone wants to tell, or someone wants to read, what does it…uh…matter, if it matters? Not every story needs to be Secret Wars build up microcrossover #8934756. In fact, a lot of people prefer when stories don’t ‘matter’ in that sense.
Just enjoy what you’re reading. That’s the only thing that matters.
(And I’ve been nicely entertained by Thanos vs. Hulk. It’s not setting the storytelling universe on fire, but it’s a fun little ride.)
